First Attempt at Juicing…I think I Like it.

I was visiting with my dad about a year ago & while looking for something we came across a Jack LaLane power juicer, brand new in the box, (can you say late night infomercial).  I asked my dad if I could have it since he had never used it & I wanted to try juicing.  I was so happy when he said yes! I proudly picked up the box & loaded it into my car, stopped at the grocery store & purchased all kinds of healthy fruits & veggies that I knew would be good for juicing, went home & planned out what juice I was going to make the next day & that is where my interest ended.  The poor juicer sat for months, never used or even thought of until this weekend, when I decided to get serious about juicing.  I really wanted to incorporate beets & celery into my meal plan but honestly HATE the taste of both.  I have tried so many recipes for them both & always seem to gag!

The recipe I started with made 32 ounces so I cleaned the fruits & veggies & divided the ingredients into 4 servings & put 3 of them into individual serving bags & into the fridge so they would be all prepped & ready for me each day.  I then attempted to put the juicer together, I won’t go into the whole process, but it was interesting to say the least (not sure why, other than I am so not mechanically inclined, because it is so simple to put together & take apart…at least now that I know what I’m doing it is).    I then added my produce & in seconds had my glass of BRIGHT Red Juice!  First drink was a little iffy, I think it was more the beet & celery smell then the taste, but after that it was actually pretty good & I know it was SUPER good for me.  Today I had my 4th serving of the juice & guess what…I actually liked it!  Woo! Hoo!  Here is the recipe if you would like to give it a try.  Please send me any recipes that you have used & really like…I would love to give them a try!

My Beet Treat

  • 1 Beet (about 3 inches in diameter)
  • 2 Apple large
  • 4 medium Carrots
  • 3-4 Celery stalks
  • 1/2 Cucumber
  • Ginger Root (about 1/2 thumb size 1 inch dia)

Process all ingredients in juicer, shake or stir, & Enjoy
